ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 24 — The Presidential polls in

Pakistan would be held in mid-September instead of October, the country’s top lawyer has said. Officials from the party of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced Friday that he would be returning to

Pakistan
within weeks, Considering petitions filed by two-time Prime Minister Sharif and his brother Shahbaz, the Supreme Court had ruled on Thursday that they were free to return to the Islamic nation after seven years in “forced” exile. But the government sent mixed signals on how it would respond to a Supreme Court ruling that threw open the coming parliamentary campaign to all political players.

 

 

Sharif has also vowed to return to the Islamic nation to take part in the general elections — a move, which according to political observers, could affect Musharraf’s re-election plan from the present assemblies. “I’m not afraid of being arrested or implicated in false cases. They cannot terrorise me through threats,” he said in response to reports that the Pakistani government might detain him on arrival in the country.
