Buta Singh was born on 21st March in 1934. He is a presently Chairman of National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC). He is a Indian National Congress leader. He is a Sikh and was first elected to the Indian Parliament in 1962. He has been eight times elected as a member of Lok Sabha in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 13th Lok Sabha. “Punjabi Speaking State – A Critical Analysis” and a collection of articles on Punjabi Literature and Sikh History. Buta Singh’s son has been remanded to police custody by a Mumbai court till Aug 5.

The CBI recorded Singh’s statement amidst heavy security presence at the Lok Nayak Bhavan. The CBI is reported to have details of the phone calls made from the former minister’s landline phone. He was first elected MP from a reserved constituency, many people hoped that Mazhabi Sikhs and Dalits had got a new messiah.

I told them to go ahead and question my son. I have been the Home Minister of the country and I know that the CBI cannot act without someone putting pressure on them.
