
56th National Film Awards
National Film Awards was established in 1954, it has been run by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals since 1973. The National Film Awards is the most prominent film award ceremony in India, and the country’s oldest alongside the Filmfare Awards. Bollywood ruled the 56th National Film Awards on Saturday, bagging as many as 13 awards, with films like Fashion, Rock On!!, Firaaq and Jodha Akbar winning two awards each in various categories. The award for Best Actor went to Upendra Limaye for Marathi film ‘Jogwa’, which also fetched the trophy for the Best film on social issues. Hindi film ‘Oye Lucky Oye’ by Dibakar Banerjee was adjudged as the Best Popular Film.
The Best Direction Award goes to Umesh Kulkarni for his work ‘Three of Us’. ‘Three of Us’ also got the award for Best Cinematography The Best Critic Award was announced for Altaf Mazid for focus on Assamese film industry as also to R.K. Bidur Singh for upholding the cause of regional film makers among 17 entries received for Film Critics category.
